Man in the Mirror
Sometimes
I haven’t seen you
as clearly as you deserve to be seen,
with the knowledge you possess
about mastering the tides and wind,
the storms, you know them by heart,
but sometimes, I fear we’ve become apart
you and I- one and the same, like body and soul,
a man, whole,
like the man in the mirror
and the image he longs to control

Final thought: If these words stayed with you for a moment,
this space might be for you too.
I write here every week —
sometimes in the open,
sometimes a little closer,
for those who choose to stay.

Beautiful poem Rolando 👏
Dear Rolando, these words stayed with me for more than a moment. This poem did not open it's door to me immediately, as it feels a bit like a riddle (I like riddles). BTW, when I click on the photo it says "Man in black shirt standing in front of woman in black shirt", but the photo only shows two versions of the man! And, both are seen from the back! --
I conclude that the man in the poem is in fact contemplating himself. He has noticed that, although whole, he and another aspect of himself have become apart, "you and I– one and the same like body and soul." My own thought is that controlling one's image in a mirror is easy, if one knows how to control oneself. The reflection in the mirror only mirrors. The mastering is always about mastering oneself. With love, Maria
